Kuipers K1 after 9 months - Loud and dangerous burning smell
At first glance, the Kuipers K1 treadmill looks fantastic:
-
A beautiful wood finish leaves the cheap competition on Amazon far behind.
-
€400 is a bit expensive, but quality comes at a price.
-
Customer reviews also seem great. The noise level, in particular, is repeatedly praised as a positive feature. Mostly 5-star ratings, with a few lower ones. Well, there’s always the occasional lemon.
The problem is that most reviews are written after only a short period. There are hardly any experience reports of long-term intensive use.
Kuipers K1 Preliminary Verdict: Initial Satisfaction Turned into Fear of Fire
To keep it short: At first, I was very happy with my Kuipers K1 walking pad. It was truly quiet and even looked relatively stylish.
But after 9 months of use, I unfortunately had to realize that this treadmill was not built to last either. It has become too loud for me to impose it on my neighbors and family anymore. Especially in summer with open windows, I find the noise level very unpleasant.
And beyond that, I eventually began to worry the motor might catch fire. An unpleasant burning smell now arises after only a short time.
I can’t see any real difference between this and the cheap models on Amazon. Under the hood, it seems to be just another Chinese budget product marketed under its own brand name. Very similar to what this review on the Kuipers page describes.

My bad experiences with walking pads led me to develop my own model. But one without a motor, making it truly durable and quiet.

Kuipers K1: Detailed Review
The Kuipers K1 was my third walking pad. I bought it because several reviews specifically described it as quiet. These reviews were the deciding factor for my purchase.

Previously, I had a walking pad from Sportstech, which I was quite satisfied with overall. However, the noise level became unbearable after a year. That’s why I specifically looked for a quiet device.
Well, at the beginning, everything was fine. The Kuipers K1 arrived, and I was thrilled because it was indeed very quiet. Plus, it had a wooden look and almost resembled a piece of furniture.

However, the initial enthusiasm quickly wore off.
Kuipers K1: Not Real Wood, But a Wood-Look
It became clear after a short time that the Kuipers K1 was not made of solid wood, as I had naively imagined. Particularly on the corners, the paint or veneer chipped off quickly, revealing the underlying material. It is likely still "wood," but not what I had envisioned.

Kuipers K1: Noise level after 9 months of use
As mentioned, the treadmill was pleasantly quiet at first. But after a few months of use, it became louder and louder until I finally felt compelled to switch to another model. Here you can hear it for yourself.

Especially during the summer with open windows, I found it very disturbing to my neighbors. I wouldn’t want to hear a neighbor’s worn-out walking pad whining all day instead of birdsong.
Admittedly, I used the treadmill quite heavily—often several hours a day. Nevertheless, I expected a walking pad costing over €400 to withstand that. Especially since I frequently lubricated and maintained it, and at 80 kg, I’m not the heaviest user.
Therefore, I assume that the Kuipers K1 is just a rebranded cheap Chinese model. Much like nearly all other walking pads on Amazon.
Kuipers K1: Burning Smell from the Motor
After 8-9 months, I also noticed an unpleasant smell. It usually arose after about half an hour of use. At first, I thought it came from the kitchen or something. But when I sniffed closer to the motor, the source was obvious:
The motor was about to burn out.
Literally. I could even swear I saw some smoke.
Surprisingly, this is not such an uncommon problem with cheap electric walking pads. A colleague's treadmill from Amazon also went up in smoke. And countless such reports can be found on the internet.

From that point on, it was clear that the Kuipers K1 was garbage after only 9 months.
Conclusion
Despite the apparent premium price, the Kuipers K1 is unfortunately not a high-quality product. After only 9 months, it was no longer usable for me (with admittedly quite intensive use).
From what I’ve observed, it appears to be a low-cost Chinese generic marketed as a high-end product.
